The Purdue Turf Doctor app was developed by experts at Purdue University to help homeowners and land managers diagnose & address turfgrass problems caused by a variety of factors including weeds, insects, diseases, nuisance animals and abiotic stress.

DEVELOPMENT

This project is the result of a collaborative effort among Dr. Doug Richmond, Dr. Aaron Patton and Dr. Rick Latin who developed all text, subject matter concepts and ideas. Development of the app was funded in part by a USDA NIFA IPM grant to Purdue University.

  • Quick access to the latest science-based recommendations from Purdue University experts on how to manage over 135 turfgrass disorders.

  • Identify turfgrass disorders by matching patterns, symptoms and signs to hundreds of high-resolution photos.

  • Check diagnoses with detailed descriptions of damage and stages of problem development linked to each photo.

  • Search for information on specific disorders by common or scientific name.

  • Use integrated filters to refine diagnoses by problem type, time of year, turfgrass species, field pattern, symptoms, signs, weed type, flower color, & more.

  • Easily create and add problems to your favorites list for quick reference later.

  • Automatically view a list of your most recent searches.

INSECTS

Explore, diagnose and find solutions for all of the most common insect pests of turfgrass. Search by location (above- or below-ground), time of year, field pattern, symptoms, signs, turf age, and turf species, or use the high quality images provided to find the right insect.

WEEDS

Explore, diagnose and find solutions for all of the most common weeds infesting turfgrass.
Search by type of weed, flower color, life cycle, growth habit, use the common filters (time of year, field pattern, turf age, turf species), or use the high quality images provided to find the right weed.

DISEASES

Explore, diagnose and find solutions for all of the most common infectious diseases of turfgrass.
Search by field pattern, symptoms, signs, time of year, turf age, turf species, or use the high quality images provided to find the right disease.

SEARCH

Use common filters (time of year, field pattern, symptoms, signs, turf age, turf species) to drill-down and create a short list of possible diagnoses for difficult to diagnose problems including those caused by nuisance animals and common abiotic disorders.
